AS writer and photo-journalist I have lived and worked all around the world–Illinois, Oregon, Italy, China, Brazil, Germany, and of course my native Ireland. Which is where I live now, and have for many years, high above the River Shannon, and I have never been happier than here.
And what do I love most about here? That everything is green. It’s like a giant green carpet covering the land. We call it ‘The Emerald Isle’, the Germans call it Der Grüne Insel, and 13th-century visitor Geraldus Cambrensis called it ‘Jehovah’s Piss-pot’. That’s because of all the rain, but it’s the rain that keeps everything green. Long may it pour. #
